About the Extended Day Program
The Evergreen Park SD 124 Extended Day Program is a service that provides before and after school care to students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The program provides a safe, enriching environment, with a warm and caring staff. Extended Day also offers a well-balanced daily schedule, which includes a nutritious snack, 30-45 minutes for homework/quiet reading, free play, and structured group activities. Participation in this program is optional.
The before school program runs from 7:00 - 8:20 AM (9:20 on Late Start Wednesdays) and the After School Program runs from 3:05 - 6:05 PM.
Before School Program: Students have the option to eat breakfast in our before school program if they are signed up for the breakfast program. Students are then given time to prepare for their school day, while also being able to socialize and join in group games in the gym. Students will be dismissed to their homeroom classes at 8:20 (9:20 on Late Starts).
After School Program: Students are dismissed from classes at 3:05 PM and report to the gym for After School. We begin the afternoon with a snack and then students can do arts/crafts, work on homework, or play games in the gym or outside if weather permits. Students are also provided with 30 minutes of homework time starting at 4:30, so they can get a good start on their homework, complete an educational activity from our resources, or read a book. After that, students have more time to socialize and play!

What do we do in Extended Day?
Students have lots of time to play and socialize. On any given day, we may have games being played outside or in the gym, various arts and crafts, computer time in the Tech Lab, and other fun activities, too!
During our before school program, students eat breakfast (if they are on our breakfast list) and get to socialize, join in a game in the gym, and prepare for the coming school day. There's lots of time for fun and games, whether it be in large or small groups. We have board games, legos, 'creature' builders, and so much more! It's lots of fun, really!
During our after school program, we always provide a half-hour of homework time. Students are encouraged to complete their school assignments during this time or to read silently. If students do not have something to work on, they may complete one of the activities in our enrichment binders or read one of the many books from our Extended Day Library. Once homework time is complete, students can engage in other activities, or we may even start a group game!
